We spent Chinese New Year in Singapore this year with our dear friends, the Teigans, who we knew from Shanghai.  They just moved to Singapore last month, and will be staying for a whole year (!!), which is why I titled this post “I”, since I fully anticipate return trips in 2011.  They have a two bedroom place (luxury!) and a two year old, so we all packed in and had a great time.

Seeing our friends: two thumbs up.  Singapore: the jury is still out.  We hardly gave it a fair chance.  Singapore is 70% Chinese, and we visited during the biggest Chinese holiday.  Places were either closed or completely packed.   Cabs were not in plentiful supply and we missed out on the hawker food offerings as most stalls were closed through the weekend.

What we did get to enjoy: Sentosa island, with all its glitter and cram; dan dan mian at a Chinese food festival at Marina Bay; the ZOO!, which is the best zoo I have ever experienced, hands down, amazing; Singapore chili crab, sweet and spicy and rich and yummy, served up on deep fried clouds of mantou, aum-numnum; retail paradise at Orchard road, where Tim gave me free reign with the credit card since I let him sleep way in, all the way until 8am, but I only bought one skirt, a wasted opportunity; a tiny taste of the expat life at Holland Village; and a great time catching up with Scott, Winnie and Taylor!  So glad you guys are in Asia again 🙂
